Building Capability

5/12/2018

Role modelling, learning, and networking are all vital aspects of leadership – and part of the day to day experiences of our team.

IPS Business Consultant Joanne Hill recently completed her Bachelor of Business with a double major in Human Resource Management and Management at Edith Cowan University in Bunbury.

Joanne was asked to be a guest speaker and share some of the experiences that led to this achievement with a group of Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) year eight students.

“I encouraged them to take on university studies when they get to that age,” Joanne said.

“I told them that one of the first goals I had was to finish high school. I wasn’t the best student but I was determined to graduate, which led me to other great things in life. Even if you’re not the smartest kid, there’s always lots of help out there at school and university – and even if you don’t get the results you want, there are plenty of opportunities later on as mature age students.”

On Thursday November 22 Joanne attended a women’s lunch with Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, Minister for Women, Jobs and Industrial Relations. organised by MP Nola Marino. Thirty women from around the South West attended the event.

Ms O’Dwyer spoke to the gathering about some of the new policies and programs being put in place to support women returning to work.

“It was a great opportunity to hear first hand from the Minister about some of the initiatives they’re planning to put in place,” Joanne said.

“One of the main focuses of the government is for women to achieve financial security. They’re making a program called Career Revive to support future female entrepreneurs. They also mentioned the opportunities available for women in the STEM field.”
