IPS are leading a community and stakeholder engagement process with the SA Department for Environment and Water, to develop South Australia's first ever Heritage Tourism Strategy. While there is research in other states about the contribution heritage tourism makes to the state economy through visitation and tourism spend, little is known about quantifying the value of SA heritage tourism places, experiences, tours and attractions.
"The brief is to work across SA to include a diverse range of voices in the creation of this new strategy for SA," IPS SA Manager and Tourism Consultant Susan Lee said.
"We know from NT research that regional heritage in particular can give people reasons to stay longer and greater visitor enjoyment and understanding of place and culture. Tourism and heritage values go hand in hand, like food and wine."
