The IPS team met in Mandurah in January for a staff retreat to kick off 2020.
Over the course of two days filled with lots of training, the retreat gave us a chance to talk about our companies values, culture and style guides, and to connect and to establish a rapport with one another.
A highlight for me throughout our training days was the cultural awareness session and our team building activity. To hear Jahna facilitate for the first time and to speak with such emotion and passion kept my attention for the entire session. Even though we don’t offer cultural awareness training in our services, it was refreshing to address the issues Aboriginal people face working in business and everyday life. To see everyone being touched in one way or another through our mobs’ culture was really nice to experience. Everyone was open-minded and I feel took something away from Jahna’s session.
Our team building activity was lots of fun. We were split into four groups according to personality styles, and asked to produce a film demonstrating IPS values and our journey. My group consisted of Kristal, Damien, Sana and Hannah. It was interesting to see our own styles flow with one another’s, and how all our ideas generated together to get a final product. Creating the film was filled with lots fun and daring, which made our group the more humorous one. It showed the IPS values through the songs we had chosen to use, and visually demonstrated IPS’s journey. Having the opportunity to be given the directors lead, to introduce our film and speak about the meaning behind it as well as what IPS has done for me, was a great opportunity. Our first night together as a team we held a barbecue next to the poolside, and dressed up as movie characters to add a little flavour to the night. The night couldn’t have gone better as everyone had brought a persona to let their hair down and dance the night away. I can’t wait for our next staff retreat!
